Since 2002, Jakarta City has hold an event to select Koko (brother) and Cici (sister) every year. Koko and Cici must not only has a good face and looking, but also great in brain, behaviour, beauty, and talent.
The winner will become the tourism and culture messenger, to spread and expand Indonesia Culture and tourism, and also to hold the existence of Chinese culture and civilization in Indonesia.
This year, 2009, Koko and Cici contest had already been held in Sun City, Lindeteves Trade Center, Jakarta. The winner of Koko Jakarta 2009 is Alvin Tjondro (22), and the champion of Cici Jakarta 2009 is Vienna Chandra (19).
jondro was named koko (older brother) and Chandra was named cici (older sister).
The pageant is aimed at improving interethnic relations, and eligibility rules state that contestants must be Chinese-Indonesian, between the ages of 18 and 25, and enter in pairs.
Evelyn Hartono, who helps handle public relations for IKOCI, said the organization was not only active in promoting diversity through the pageant, but also through other means, including public celebrations of Chinese New Year and the Moon Cake Festival.
Julius Wijaya, IKOCI’s senior vice president, said 158 pairs had entered this year Koko Cici contest, an increase of 30 percent over the number of participants last year.
Tjondro and Chandra won after going through — among other things — the usual question-and-answer session, a traditional Chinese fashion show and a dance showcase.
Hope that the winner can contribute something to Indonesia.
